Brian DuFord began his career as a classical guitar soloist, earning degrees from the Mannes College
of Music and Yale School of Music. In 2002, after concertizing for nearly two decades, he exited the classical music field,
placed his guitar in a closet and embarked upon a new course in the entertainment industry. Then in 2008,
after scoring numerous independent films and documentaries, he very happily returned to classical music, but more specifically,
chamber music. It was nothing short of a perfect fit. Within a short period of time his compositions, performed worldwide
by top ensembles, have garnered much attention, enthusiasm and praise.
Most recently the Grammy nominated Imani Winds gave the World Premiere of Variations on an Afro-Cuban Lullaby (Drume
Negrita) at the 2012 Kissinger Winterzauber Festival in Bad Kissingen, Germany. In May of 2011 the Grammy nominated Borealis
Wind Quintet gave the World Premiere of Vignettes Balletiques at the Raritan River Music Festival in New Jersey. Upcoming
premieres include eMerging Tangents (Ensemble Ultima Rara - Munich, Germany); La Danza del Marsyas (Trio Altrove 1.3 - Firenze,
Italy); Grand Sonata for Séraphine de Senlis (Duo d'Accord - Munich, Germany) and Concert Etudes for Flute Quartet
(South Carolina Flute Society).
He, along with flutist
Christopher Vamenan, is a founding memeber of the flute and guitar duo ECHO (described as "possessing extraordinary
rapport and sensitivity" by world reknown guitarist Eliot Fisk). This past November, after an almost nine year hiatus,
ECHO returned to the stage in a series of dynamic, crowd pleasing concerts which included two premiers.
A dedicated teacher, Brian was recently invited by the Imani Winds to coach student ensembles
on his chamber works during their 2011 Chamber Music Festival at the Julliard School in New York. He is also a much sought
after guitar instructor. His private studio of young musicians, some of whom have gone on to develop careers in the music
business, explore the finer points of classical, folk, blues and rock.
When not composing, concertizing or teaching he can be found in the kitchen, armed with a glass of good red wine, a chef's
hat and numerous cookbooks as he prepares gourmet meals for his family.
Brian performs
(and composes) on a 1991 Thomas Humphrey Millenium guitar. He is a member of ASCAP and Chamber Music America.
